Prototype Devlog 2 - Jess

<span class="NormalTextRun SCXW121658244 BCX2" <the="" playtesting<="" span="">The playtesting of my prototype went well, and I received some really helpful feedback that will help me to improve our game going forward. As my prototype focused mainly on aesthetics, most of the feedback revolved around that. A big problem with my prototype was how bright the environment was, so I’ll definitely be making my game a lot darker in the next prototype. I also received suggestions on colour, fog, and backgrounds, which I’m going to test in this week’s prototype.</span>

<span class="NormalTextRun SCXW121658244 BCX2" <this="" week,="" i="" want="" to="" expand="" on="" my="" <="" span="">This week, I want to expand on my previous prototype of the game by improving the already existing elements, and by adding in a few new things.</span>

First, I want to improve the picking up items system. I need to add text telling the player what <span class="NormalTextRun SCXW121658244 BCX2" <they’re<="" span="">they're picking up and how to pick up the item. I will also need to add the ability to have an item pick up on a button press. More items to pick up will also be modelled and added to the game.</span>

Next, I need to fix and add audio in the game. The speed of the footsteps is too slow right now and needs to be sped up. Also, a noise for the flashlight and pickup could be added.

I also want to change the appearance of the flashlight, as I just don’t really like how it looks right now. I did also receive a few comments about it during playtesting, saying that it looks slightly off.

Finally, the playable area needs to be expanded and filled out a lot more, to make the goal of the game clearer to the players. I’m also going to experiment with fog and lighting colours, to see how they change the overall vibe of the game.

Questions for playtesting:

How did the game make you feel?

Did you understand the point/goal of the game?

Did the environment feel too empty/too full/just right?
