DevLog 5 - Laila

As I mentioned in my previous post, my main objectives were to focus on coding elements, the vertical slice, and the overall aesthetic. Progress has been coming along well and we've generally only faced a few minor bugs / changes that have contributed to the improvement of the game once we worked through them.

As a team, we successfully completed a playable verticle slice, which we presented and received feedback for. Moving forward, we've ensured to take any feedback into account and hear what players would want to see within our game. For example, we decided to alter the primary mechanics of the monster; rather than appearing at random intervals and increasing the amount of appearances based on how many items have been collected, the monster spawns at the beginning and chases the player, increasing in speed as more items are picked up. The primary idea for the chasing mechanic is to further emphasize the horror elements and enhance the overall gameplay. Additionally, considering previous playtesting sessions, players felt the monster lacked in areas or could be improved, and this just seemed like the best route to work towards.

As for the visuals and aesthetic, our main priority at the moment is finalizing the monster and more prominent parts of the game, so I've focused on working on the code. I plan to continue refining the game and working towards completion!
