DevLog 5 - Jess
The vertical slice for our game is progressing really well as of right now! I have made a smaller version of what the game’s map will look like, making sure to keep the buildings and objects close together in order to create a more claustrophobic environment. Each of the buildings that we have modelled so far have been textured really nicely (thank you Jun), and have a very grainy, old style to them. The only problem with the buildings has been creating the colliders in Unity. For some reason, selecting a mesh collider does not work with the models after they've been textured, so I have to manually place box colliders on EVERY SINGLE THING in the entire game. This takes AGES but it will be worth it in the end I hope...
We also ran into some issues with the monster and jumpscare, but luckily they were easy enough to fix. Laila also completely reworked the monster systems in order to make them more efficient and understandable. We still need to work on changing the meter into a vignette effect, and stopping the monster from spawning inside of the ground. Also, items that can be picked up still need to be added, and their effects on speeding up the monster spawns needs to be implemented.
In terms of scope, I feel that our game’s map should be a lot smaller than I had originally envisioned. After several playtests, I realised that a large, open environment just isn’t that scary at all for our style of game. Therefore, I think that the map should be much smaller, with way more enclosed spaces, and maybe one or two slightly more open areas just to shake things up a little bit.
