Prototype Devlog - Laila

My primary goal throughout working on my prototype was to capture the overall theme and atmosphere of the game. To achieve this, I decided that I would focus largely on the aesthetics and layout of the world, rather than specific game-play or mechanics.

I began by creating a simple white-box map and building from a map/layouts previously discussed within the group. As we're setting the game in a farm, I began laying out basic low-poly structures using Unity's Probuilder to map out where/what buildings would be placed. To test out the space I was creating, I then shifted my focus towards the player and the core movement mechanics, using basic code for WASD movement & a first-person camera using mouse movement.

After adding the movement and working on simple worldbuilding, I then decided to build on the atmosphere so that I could further demonstrate the main elements of the game. I created minimal assets using Aseprite to place around the world and create the environment, such as shrubbery and trees. I made sure to opt for a darker, creepier palette to stay consistent with the horror theme.

Lastly, I added a simple pick-up system to create an understanding of the main objective of the game and finalized the visuals of the prototype by adjusting the lighting and adding eerie effects to the camera and world.
